Project Management Plan (PMP)

For large projects the Project Management Plan is an excellent resource of information to assist the overall management of the Project. Giving the Project Leaders a clear informative document to ease the handling of day to day project activities.

Having a Project Management Plan has many major benefits and in some cases is demanded by public organisation's before a project starts.

In the formation of the PMP the project leader can walk through the project with key project members and determine what likely project obstacles and issues will arise that need to be managed. You can decide the structure of your resource team, whom is responsible for each project segment, giving the project team clarity. You can also determine how communication is to take place within the Project Team, especially when one project manager has 'key-learning's' that need to be shared with other project managers in different locations. You can also outline how Project Costs are to be captured and reported.

The PMP also allows you to give guidance on how to resolve, record and manage issues and work with supplier relationship issues. The end objective is to have a document that is well used in the Project Management team that is helpful in all areas.

The Project Management Plan can be segmented into the following indices.

  • Project Introduction
  • Project Human Resource Management ( Illustrating, Project Sponsors, Project Steering Committee, Project Director, Project Manager, Project Technical Manager, Project Sub Project Managers, Project Resource Teams)
  • Project Scope
  • Project Time Management
  • Project Procurement Management
  • Project Financial Management
  • Project Quality Management (Reference to the PQP document)
  • Project Risk Management
  • Project Issue Management
  • Project Communications

Good preparation, with upfront project systems education allows your 'team' to focus on project milestone achievement, rather than friction that can arise if the project processes fall apart. To ensure this happens, your Project Quality Plan (PQP) can give you the tools necessary to monitor the application of the PMP.
