New Product Costing

There are many ways to represent a Costing of a new product, however in principle you need to cover all the costs associated with the development, capital expenditure, direct costs and overhead (variable and fixed) recoveries and make a margin suitable for the planned level of sales.

In the 'New Product Development' life cycle you may first complete a costing estimate over a discussion with key project players, this may also include suppliers before trial work is approved. You may even decide it is best to sub-contract out, or decide the product is not going to be profitable from the very outset.

Preliminary Costing allows you the ability to have an informed visible process that gives you the base to make sound business decisions that also have built-in decision gateways that give you control.

We can help with procedural development around this function and also help with the calculating all the costs attributed to the product; research, product development, testing, associated direct costs and indirect costs, showing work centre efficiency information, yield information and waste information.

Main areas where we can help you:

  • NPD Procedural development (Planned thorough approach)

  • NPD Preliminary Costing ( calculating and summation)
